Re: Creation by NIkki Giovanni takes a different approach to back covers of a book. The collage of portraits tells multiple stories (many of which I am still researching), but more importantly, the only words displayed, takes you back 50 years to a tragic moment which still plauges black America today. Happy researching!

(This is the only other book that I have from my dad's collection that had the book cover separated. I am waiting until he is with me to preserve it. The picture will be posted once it is done)

The Legacy series is my way of preserving part of my dad in a way that can send a powerful message to all who view it. My Dad was well read with a wall library. His book collection included books from all over the world, many of which showed their age.  During a conversation with my Father-in-law, I realized that he shared a behavior of always reading the back of a book before opening it. I always loved the back of books, because they tend to tell a concise summary of the book/author while also providing key insight that may lead to further research before reading the book.

The mint stem and leaves were added as an ironical twist on the condition of the piece.

  • Book covers were not purposely tampered with for the purpose of this artwork. The book eperienced natural wear and tear over the years which lead to the natural deterioration and detachment of the cover
